WATERLOO, Ontario, Sept. 3, 2026 — Photon-IV Inc. (“Photon-IV” or the “Company”), a Canadian deep technology company building AI-powered network orchestration software for terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks, today announced that it has been selected as a qualified supplier under the Government of Canada’s Defence Drone Initiative (DDI) Marketplace.
The qualification establishes Photon-IV as a pre-qualified supplier under the DDI Marketplace and provides the Company with a pathway to compete for future requirements involving uncrewed and autonomous systems in support of the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Coast Guard.

The communications layer is the constraint
Uncrewed and autonomous systems are only as capable as the link that carries them. A drone that cannot maintain a connection cannot be tasked, cannot report, and cannot be recovered. In contested and remote environments, that link is exactly what fails first: jamming, terrain masking, weather, satellite passes ending below the horizon, and nodes dropping out of formation.
Photon-IV builds the layer that keeps the connection alive through those conditions. The Company’s software predicts link degradation before it happens and moves traffic across satellite (NTN) and terrestrial (TN) networks in advance of the failure, rather than reacting after the link is already lost.

SwarmNet: mesh, gateway, and return-to-base
SwarmNet, the Company’s uncrewed systems product, addresses three problems that recur across drone programs:
- Mesh formation. Autonomous nodes discover each other and form a self-healing network topology that survives individual nodes dropping out.
- Link selection. The swarm reaches out to satellite or terrestrial networks when the mission requires it, with the Company’s prediction engine selecting the right link at the right moment.
- Autonomous return-to-base. The swarm completes its mission and comes home, including when links are degraded or denied.
The system is designed to sit underneath existing platforms rather than compete with them, integrating with third-party airframes, payloads and ground control systems.
Open to collaboration across the Canadian ecosystem
Photon-IV is actively seeking collaboration with other DDI Marketplace suppliers and Canadian developers whose systems require resilient connectivity, including:
- Airframe and platform manufacturers building fixed-wing, rotary or hybrid uncrewed aircraft
- Counter-uncrewed aerial systems (C-UAS) developers requiring resilient sensor and effector networking across distributed nodes
- Payload, sensor and ISR developers whose data must move reliably from the edge
- Systems integrators and prime contractors assembling end-to-end capabilities for Canadian Armed Forces and Canadian Coast Guard requirements
- Satellite operators and terminal manufacturers working on direct-to-device and NTN integration
The Company’s position is that no single Canadian small or medium enterprise will deliver a complete uncrewed capability alone, and that the fastest route to operational Canadian systems is through composition of specialized domestic capabilities rather than duplication of them.
